Ferromagnetism Induced by Uniaxial Pressure in the Itinerant Metamagnet Sr3Ru2O7

We report a uniaxial-pressure study on the magnetisation of single crystals of the bilayer perovskite Sr3Ru2O7, a metamagnet close to a ferromagnetic instability. We observed that the application of a uniaxial pressure parallel to the c-axis induces ferromagnetic ordering with a Curie temperature of about 80 K and critical pressures of about 4 kbar or higher. This value for the critical pressure is even higher than the value previously reported (~ 1 kbar), which might be attributed to the difference of the impurity level. Below the critical pressure parallel to the c-axis, the metamagnetic field appears to hardly change. We have also found that uniaxial pressures perpendicular to the c-axis, in contrast, do not induce ferromagnetism, but shift the metamagnetic field to higher fields.Comment: Accepted for publication in Proc of 24th Int. This paper presents initial findings from research investigating an important but largely neglected facet of the history of Further Education (FE) – the Liberal Studies and General Studies (LS/GS) movement. Drawing on historical documents and interview data from a group of former LS/GS lecturers, the paper provides important insights into some of the key events and initiatives between the 1950s-1980s, which led to the rise and eventual fall of the LS/GS movement, and seeks to capture the voices of those who were involved at the ‘chalk face’. Whilst it is acknowledged that the quality and nature of LS/GS was often variable and that the experiences of both teachers and learners were often uneven, the central argument of the paper is that many of the principles of the LS/GS movement were not only ahead of their time, but are perhaps more relevant to FE today than ever before

Levinseniella (Monarrhenos) capitanea n. sp. is described from metacercariae on the hepatopancreas and gonads of Callinectes sapidus Rathbun from Louisiana and Mississippi. It can be distinguished from all other members of the genus by possessing 11–21 atrial pockets and an acetabulum larger than the oral sucker, not possessing a pharynx nor well-developed ceca, and being 1.9–3.6 mm in length. Authentic Reflection for Experiential Learning at İnternational Schools

When students are required to reflect on their experiential learning, they face many challenges. Moreover, if teachers and advisors do not implement reflection effectively, students are less likely to internalize the lessons they learn from their experiences. Based on a multi-case study applying grounded theory, this research examined how reflection on experiential learning was implemented at six International Baccalaureate schools in Turkey. Several patterns emerged across schools from which the authors developed a theoretical framework for conceptualizing the reflection process for experiential learning with respect to (1) timing and frequency of reflections, (2) formats and contexts for reflection, and (3) feedback about reflection. The authors make a number of recommendations for improving the reflection process in the aforementioned areas and offer suggestions for future research
